Why I Became a Real Estate Agent: My Journey to Mid-Michigan
Some people know from a young age that they want to sell houses. That wasn't my story. My path to becoming a licensed REALTOR® was shaped by more than two decades spent working behind the scenes in the real estate industry — and honestly, I wouldn't trade that experience for anything.
Twenty Years Behind the Curtain
Before I ever held a real estate license, I spent over 20 years on the operational side of the business. I handled transaction processing, agent support, marketing and advertising, event coordination, and graphic design for real estate professionals. Every day, I was immersed in the mechanics of how deals come together — and, just as importantly, where they fall apart.
I watched agents struggle with marketing that didn't resonate, misjudge pricing because they didn't understand a neighborhood's nuances, or lose client trust by cutting corners on communication. I also watched exceptional agents build lasting careers by doing the opposite: being honest, staying organized, and treating every transaction like it was personal — because to their clients, it was.
Those observations stayed with me. I started to realize that I didn't just understand the industry — I understood what clients actually need. And I wanted to be the one delivering it.
The Decision to Get Licensed
In 2014, I made the leap. Getting my real estate license wasn't a leap of faith — it was a natural next step. I already knew the paperwork, the marketing, the transaction flow, and the relationship dynamics inside and out. What I wanted was the ability to guide real people through real decisions with the knowledge and care I knew they deserved.
I'll be honest: there was a learning curve. Being great at the behind-the-scenes work and being a great agent are two different things. But my deep industry foundation gave me a head start that most new agents don't have. I already understood why timing matters, why pricing strategy is everything, and why a smooth closing starts months before the offer is accepted.
Falling in Love with Mid-Michigan
I've always called Mid-Michigan home, and working in this region as an agent deepened my appreciation for the communities here. From the tree-lined neighborhoods of Grand Blanc to the charming downtown streets of Fenton, from the quiet rural beauty of Lapeer County to the top-rated school districts in Livingston County, every community has its own personality.
I love helping people discover that. Whether someone is a first-time buyer looking for their starter home, a family wanting more space and better schools, or a retiree hoping to downsize into something that fits their next chapter — I get to match people with the community that fits their life. That work is deeply satisfying to me.
What Drives Me Every Day
My mission has always been simple: honest guidance and exceptional personal service. I want every client to feel confident and supported through every step of their move. That means answering every question — even the ones you think are silly. It means giving you my honest assessment, even when it's not what you want to hear. And it means staying in communication from the moment we start working together until long after the closing.
A large portion of my business comes from referrals and repeat clients. When someone trusts me enough to send their friends and family, that's the highest compliment I can receive. It tells me I'm building the kind of relationships that last — and that my clients genuinely feel the care I bring to every transaction.
Looking Forward
Real estate is constantly changing. Market conditions shift, technology evolves, and client expectations grow. But the fundamentals that guide my work remain the same: deep local knowledge, transparent communication, strong negotiation, and a genuine commitment to every client's goals.
If you're thinking about buying or selling in Mid-Michigan, I'd love to have a conversation. No pressure, no obligation — just an honest discussion about your goals and how I can help you reach them. That's how every good relationship in this business starts.
