Why Communication Matters More Than Anything in Real Estate
After more than two decades in real estate — first behind the scenes in administration and marketing, and now as a licensed REALTOR® — I can tell you with absolute certainty that the number one thing that makes or breaks a real estate transaction isn't the market, the pricing strategy, or even the home itself. It's communication.
That might sound simple, but you'd be surprised how often it goes wrong. And when it does, the consequences can be severe — lost deals, broken trust, and transactions that fall apart for reasons that could have been entirely preventable.
How Miscommunication Leads to Lost Deals
Over the years, I've watched deals collapse not because of market conditions or financing issues, but because someone didn't pick up the phone. A deadline passes because an agent forgot to relay it. A seller doesn't know an offer is on the table until hours after it arrives. A buyer finds out about an inspection issue through the grapevine instead of from the person hired to protect their interests.
In real estate, timing is everything. A 24-hour delay in relaying information can mean the difference between securing a home and losing it to another buyer. When communication breaks down, people make decisions based on incomplete information — or no information at all. That's when misunderstandings take root, emotions run high, and transactions unravel.
Why I Built My Practice Around Communication
My 20+ years working behind the scenes taught me something critical: the agents who consistently delivered the best outcomes for their clients were the ones who communicated proactively and clearly. They didn't wait for clients to chase them down for updates. They picked up the phone before there was a problem. They explained every step of the process in plain language.
When I got licensed in 2014, I made a commitment to myself and to every client I would serve: you will never have to wonder what's happening with your transaction. That's a promise I take personally, and it's the foundation of everything I do.
What You Can Expect When Working with Me
When we start working together — whether you're buying your first home or selling a property you've owned for decades — here's what communication looks like in practice:
Consistent Updates, Even When There's Nothing New
One of the most common things I hear from clients who've worked with other agents is that they had no idea what was happening. I provide regular updates whether there's big news or not. If your listing had three showings this week and no offers yet, you'll hear about it from me. If your inspection is scheduled for Thursday, I'll confirm the details and let you know what to expect. Silence creates anxiety. Communication creates confidence.
Plain Language, Not Industry Jargon
Real estate is full of acronyms and technical terms — FHA, VA, appraisal contingencies, title commitments, escrow adjustments. I explain everything in language that makes sense. You should never feel lost in your own transaction. If you don't understand something I've explained, that's on me to do better, not on you to figure out.
Responsiveness You Can Count On
Real estate doesn't work on a 9-to-5 schedule. Offers come in on Sunday evenings. Inspection results need review on a Tuesday afternoon. Questions pop up when you're lying in bed at night. I respond to my clients promptly because I know that in this business, a quick response often means the difference between moving forward and falling behind. I'm not saying I'm available 24/7, but I am saying you'll hear back from me the same day — usually much sooner.
Proactive Problem-Solving
I don't wait for problems to become crises. If I see something in an inspection report that could become an issue in negotiations, I'm already developing a strategy before I pick up the phone to talk to you about it. If the appraisal comes in lower than expected, I have a plan for how to address it. Part of good communication is anticipating what you need to know before you have to ask.
A Clear Roadmap from Day One
From our first conversation, I walk you through the entire process — buying or selling — so there are no surprises. You'll know what's coming, what's expected of you, what's expected of me, and what the timeline looks like. Knowledge reduces stress, and reducing stress is a big part of what I do.
The Difference That Communication Makes
I've had clients come to me after difficult experiences with previous agents — missed deadlines, unexpected complications, feeling blindsided by developments in their own transaction. When we work together, the first thing they notice is the difference in communication. It transforms the experience. Buying or selling a home should be one of the most exciting milestones in your life, not one of the most stressful. Consistent, honest, clear communication is how I make that happen.
A large portion of my business comes from referrals and repeat clients, and I believe that's directly connected to how I communicate. People refer me because they felt informed, respected, and supported throughout their experience. That's the standard I hold myself to every single day.
